Emergency and Disaster Management Act

On this edition of TotalHealth John speaks with Dr. Matthew Cockle, author of the presentation Legislating Totalitarianism in British Columbia. The three legislative acts—the Emergency and Disaster Management Act, the Health Professions and Occupations Act, and the Legal Professions Act—are not merely reforms; they are transformative measures that recast significant areas of public life. By centralizing power, bypassing established checks and balances, and limiting public input, they collectively create a framework where state authority is vastly expanded at the expense of transparency, accountability, and individual rights.

For the citizens of British Columbia, these changes will mean a future marked by diminished civil liberties, fewer avenues for legal and professional recourse, and a democratic system increasingly governed by opaque administrative decisions rather than open, deliberative debate. Or, in other words, a Totalitarian state. Today the focus is on the HPOA, Health Professions and Occupations Act.

We are a diverse group of concerned health professionals (medical doctors, dentists, chiropractors, naturopaths, physio therapists, massage therapists, psychologists, etc. who are committed to raising awareness of the devastating impact (and potential impact) of government regulation of the health care delivery services.  We are part of a larger coalition of associations, political groups, societies, lawyers, and lay people alike.
